The File Browser
The File Browser lists all files in the httpdocs directory of your website. Httpdocs is the root directory of your website and contains files that are necessary for your website to function.
Typically, you will see index.php and config_advantage.php files, along with the following directories: css (CSS files); js (JavaScript files); images (image files); plesk-stat (website statistics); and your account directory.
With cmsadvantage you can upload documents such as PDFs and spreadsheets using the File Browser facility to your account directory, which can then be made available to your clients or staff for download from your website.
File Browser facility allows you to:
- Delete documents from your website.
- Rename a file.
- Download a file.
- Create directories (folders).
Important! This is something that should only be done if you know what your doing! The file browser not only displays files you have uploaded for your clients or staff to download. It also displays many of the files used to generate your website.
Do not delete any files or directories in the httpdocs directory! These are necessary for your website to function, deleting will break your website!
Uploading Documents to your website
Before you can make the file available through your website you need to upload it to your website directory located on the Server (where all files that make up your website are stored).
Uploading a Document
cmsadvantage has made this process simple by creating a File Browser that uploads the file to the right location.
- To access the File Browser, choose Site Management > File Browser from the main menu.
- This will take you to the File Browser screen which lists out all the files and directories that belong to your website.
- Locate your Account Directory. That is the folder named after your website account name. For example, in the case of cmsadvantage, our account name would be cmsadvantage.
- Click on this folder to enter it. Within the folder you will see several subdirectories, such as Images and Documents.
- Depending on your website and its features the cmsadvantage Wizard may have created further subdirectories for you.
- Locate the Documents subfolder and click on it to enter. This is where you should upload any documents that you would like people to be able to download from your website.
- The option to Upload a File is located at the top right of the File Browser screen. Click on the Browse button next to the Upload File field.
- A pop-up window will appear displaying all the files on your computer. Locate the file you want to upload and select it. When you have selected the file, click Open or OK.
- You should now see the file path in the Upload File field.
- Click on the Upload File button next to the Browse button to upload the file.

Once uploaded a message will be displayed at the top of the screen saying ‘Operation Successful’.
Deleting a Document
To delete a document simply click on the red
icon next to that document. A pop-up box will appear asking you if you are sure you want to delete this file.

If sure, click the Yes button. Otherwise click Cancel. Once the file has been deleted, you will see the message ‘Operation Successful’.
Note:The system will not allow you to delete a directory that contains files. You first have to delete all files within the directory before deleting the directory itself.
If you don’t recognise a file DO NOT DELETE IT! The File Browser displays files that are necessary for your website to function. If in doubt, do not delete! As a rule of thumb only ever delete files within your own account directory.
Downloading Documents
To download a document, click on the file name, the icon corresponding to that file, e.g.
or the save
button. A pop-up window will appear asking you to choose a location on your computer to download this file to, just like any other file you download from the internet. Select the location and click Save or OK.
Renaming a Document
To rename a document, click on the edit icon
corresponding to that file. Enter a new name for the file in the New Name field and click the Rename button.

Again, if you don’t recognise the file, don’t touch it. If you rename a file and the code for your website is still looking for the old file name, your website will no longer work!
If you accidentally choose the wrong file, there is no cancel button. Simply select Site Management > File Browser from the menu again to return to the File Browser page. Provided you exit this page without clicking the Rename button the file name won’t change. Alternatively, just leave the file name as it was originally and click Rename.
Creating a New Directory
The File Browser gives you the ability to create a new directory. When creating a new directory, please do so in your account directory. This will ensure your files are well organised and separate from those that run your website. To create a directory, type the name of the directory into the New Directory field and click Create Directory.

Note:At the present time there is a bug with the this facility within the File Browser. You can create a new directory and place files within it but when people try to download these files from your website it won't work. We are currently working to rectify this issue and greatly appreciate your patience.
Navigating between Directories
When inside a directory or subdirectory, to navigate back to the parent directory, click on the text Parent Directory located under File Name.
